English: Nelson Monument Liverpool The Nelson Monument was unveiled in October 1813. It is located in Exchange Flags behind Liverpool Town Hall. The monument commemorates Nelson as a English hero. It was Liverpool's first major public Sculpture. Around the base, are four prisoners representing captured sailors from four of Nelson's greatest triumphs. The signal that Nelson sent before the Battle of Trafalgar, "England expects every man to do his duty", are written around the top of the plinth. |
