Summary
[edit]DescriptionNeilson No.2119.jpg |
English: An extremely rare survivor in 1972 - Neilson 14" 0-4-0ST No.2119 of 1876 lying withdrawn in the Chepstow yard of Fairfield Mabey, 05/72. It was built for the Great Eastern Railway as Class "209" No.229 (later No.0229) but it was sold for industrial service in 1917 with the Admiralty at Beachley Dock, Chepstow before working at Fairfield Engineering shipyard in the same town. The surviving 209's became LNER Class "Y5". No.2119 was the last "ogee" sadlle tank in the UK. Fortunately, it is now preserved. Scanned slide. |
