Description
English: This is a scan of a herbarium specimen of the Lord Howe endemic tree Negria rhabdothamnoides (Generiaceae). Known on the Island as Pumpkin Tree, this very distinctive endemic is the only member of its genus and is the most arboreal member of Gerneriaceae in the world. It grows in moist forest at mid-to high elevation on the two southern mountains. This view shows the ditinctive feature of flowers in threes seen here emerging from the base of the flower stalk. Collection info: "Game 69/026. Small tree, bark light grey, very soft. Flowers golden yellow, waxy texture. Leaves clustered at ends of branches. In dense rainforest, Mount Gower Plateau [near east end]. August 8th 1969".
