Description
English: This is a scan of a herbarium specimen of the Lord Howe endemic tree Negria rhabdothamnoides (Generiaceae). Known on the island as Pumpkin Tree, this very distinctive endemic is the only member of its genus and is the most arboreal member of Gerneriaceae in the world. It grows in moist forest at mid-to high elevation in the two southern mountains. See adjacent images for flower and leaf details. Collection info: "Game 69/346. Tree about 9 metres high with very soft light yellowish grey rough bark and brittle wood. Corolla golden yellow with a waxy texture, falling. In moss forest near the S.E.-facing edge of the Mt. Gower Plateau, towards the N.E. corner. Quite frequent throughout the moss forest area, and also occurring on E. side Mt. Lidgbird. Not seen in north part of Island. Alt. ca. 2750 feet. Sept. 6th 1969".
