English: A pair of Necrophila americana (Linnaeus), the American carrion beetle, which is attracted to dead animal carcasses. These individuals were collected in USA: Connecticut: Middlesex County: Killingworth, in a pitfall trap baited with a dead chipmunk at the interface between a meadow and a forested area with mixed conifers and hardwoods, 28-May to 31-May-2011, collector M.K. Oliver, in collection of same. A male (left) and female are shown at the same scale; note that the female has the elytral apices produced. Male 17.3 mm, female 19.2 mm from front of head to tips of elytra. |
