La Nebulosa del Cangrejo, M1 o NGC 1952 es una nebulosa brillante de dimensiones de 4’ por 6’ de arco de grado o 6 años luz de diámetro, una magnitud de +16, a una distancia de 6.300 años luz del Sol y ubicada en la constelación de Taurus. Con binoculares o con un pequeño telescopio se la puede observar como una pequeña manchita blanquecina a poco mas de 1º a l NW de la estrella ZETA TAURUS o TIEN KONAN (del chino). Esta nebulosa brillante en realidad es el remanente de la explosión de una estrella, una SUPERNOVA, que se mantuvo visible durante 22 meses. La estrella de 10 masas solares explota desde el interior de la misma liberando materia estelar hacia todas direcciones y aún hoy se puede observar el controno permanentemente variando debido a que la materia estelar sigue expandiendose a razón de 1500 kms/seg. En el interior o centro de la nebulosas hay un pulsar, estrella muy masiva formada producto de la concentración gravitacional luego de la explosión, y tiene 30 pulsaciones por segundo, de ahí que se la llame púlsar. Los chinos y los árabes la registraron en el 5 de Julio del 1054 y fue re-descubierta en Europa en el año 1731 por John Bevis y catalogada por Charles Messier en sus objetos no cometarios como M1 (Messier 1). El recuadro con los datos de la hora de salida (Este) y el paso por el meridiano del lugar corresponden a la estrella ZETA TAURUS o TIEN KONAN. Tales datos son aproximadamente válidos para el litoral argentino y costa atlántica. |
