| Description |
English: Because of the Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Catholic Church, the Black Nazarene procession in Quiapo held on January 9 was attended only by a minimal- estimated 2M Catholics (unlike in 2017 - Supt. Lucile Faycho, Manila Police District, estimated 18 million devotees-participants); no traditional andas “Traslación”, “Pahalik”, " and Pasanan" (carrying of the image); instead the Quiapo Church introduced 2 innovations: the “Pagpupugay” (Black Nazarene statues, big-screen TV for online hourly Masses liturgy livestreaming, tabernacle with Holy Eucharist distributed by Lay ecclesial ministers at built-in outdoor "Communion Stations" from 3 a.m. to 11 pm, January 9 and "Walk of Faith" procession after the Misa Mayor midnight mass on January 8 by Cardinal Advincula at 1:30-4:00 a.m. starting from Quirino Grandstand-Parade Grounds, Padre Burgos Street, Jones Bridge, Hidalgo Street, Boulevard, Palanca Street, Villalobos Street, Plaza Miranda and Quiapo Church). |
