CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. - A leadership gathering took place at the Replacement Naval Hospital Oct. 18 as the Surgeon General of the Navy and Chief of the Navy's Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Vice Adm. Matthew Nathan, received detailed briefs and a tour from Clark/McCarthy A Joint Venture (CMJV) and the hospital construction management teams, consisting of Navy Medicine West and Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest personnel. Other executives in attendance included Richard Heim, President & CEO of Clark's Western Region; Hal Roach, Chief Operating Officer of Clark Construction; and Steve Mynsberge, Executive Vice President-Healthcare of McCarthy Building Companies. The project team briefed milestones and future construction stages, toured the hospital site and gave the visitors a glimpse of what $275 million worth of construction in just over two years actually looks like.

"It was a true pleasure for our blended construction team to demonstrate the fine accomplishments to date for the Surgeon General of the Navy," said Cmdr. Whit H. Robinson, Resident Officer in Charge of Construction for the Replacement Naval Hospital Project. "We feel strongly that Navy Medicine will be receiving a state-of-the-art hospital facility in full response to their operational needs and desires, and that soon our Warriors, their families and the retired military community will fully and personally appreciate the dedication of our combined efforts."

The $455M Replacement Naval Hospital Project will have nine operating rooms, eight labor & delivery rooms, 16 post-partum suites, four ICU's, 96 outpatient rooms, 205 exam rooms and 15 dental suites. 4,000 tons of structural steel, 35,000 cubic yards of concrete, and 100,000 square feet of natural limestone include just some of the materials used to construct this iconic structure. More than 100 specialty contractors have worked on the hospital project, comprised of more than 2,500 craftsmen and women. The hospital project employs 700-1000 workers performing an average of $1 million every working day on the hospital site. The construction is anticipated to be complete next Winter. The facility is expected to open for business in the Spring of 2014.
