English: PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii (July 27, 2016) During the rock coring phase, core samples are carefully removed from the borehole and quickly handed off to geologists at every 5-foot interval. Geologists then observe and catalog the cores in order to develop a better understanding of the subsurface geology of the borehole.
