Title
naval button (back)
Description
English: Cast copper alloy naval button with the base of the soldered wire loop on the back, and depicting a anchor with a top ring and an oblique cross bar, within a recessed grooved background with a rope border, on the face. There does not appear to be a rope attached to the ring, or a crown above the anchor or initials either side, which suggests that it is a naval surgeon's button.

Bailey (1992) illustrates a similar surgeon's button on page 27, No.9, which is dated to c.1805.

Meredith & Cuddeford (1997) illustrate a similar naval captain's button on page 15, No.5, which is dated from c.1795 to 1812.
