Summary
[edit]DescriptionNau Langenau Schwaebische-Alb.jpg |
English: River Nau in Langenau, Swabian Alb. The water oft he Nau’s karst spring (Image:Nau_Karstquelltopf_Langenau_Schwaebische Alb.jpg) and of two small karst springs run through this kanal. There are another three large karst springs and a second branch of the Nau. 3 km, east of Langenau, in the middle of the wetland “Schwäbisches Donaumoos” emerges the biotope and geotope „Karst Spring Grimmensee“. The area next after Ulm/Langenau is a permanent wetland of ca. 7,5x15 km, devided by the border Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. In this area the meltwater of the pleistocene river Upper Danube transported gravel, over time forming gravel beds of enormous size, functioning as a groundwater reservoir, which kept the surface a wetland.
This kind of “full water tub” contains the karst waters of the southeastern Swabian Alb, mainly from river Lone and its dry valley-tributaries. This river network meanwhile percolates ca. 80% of its precipitation underground to the wetland area of the Danube. |
