Save for theRedwood Belt, the greater portion of still un-exploited forest, that is, virgin timber of highcommercial value, lies within the boundaries ofnational forests and is being administered withreference to yielding a perpetual annual income.It is not, towever, primarily the extent of theforest or size of the individual tree, but the numberand variety of the species which makes the PacificCoast the headquarters for conifers, and gives tothe area in the matter of distribution of plants onthe earths surface a general as well as a special in-terest.
