ome one of his many battles withother birds that came too near his nest. He was very proudof the handsome brown-specked eggs the nest containedand often hovered in the air over them to see that theywere all right, but he never took his turn at sitting on them. When his little ones appeared, he was fiercer than everand became quite savage in his attack upon other birds. He was very expert at catching insects and fed the littleKingbirds more often than his mate did. He brought, among other things, many locusts, moths dragon flies andeven bees; most of these wrere swallowed by the little birdswhole, but sometimes the parents would pull the wings offfirst. The Kingbird is a bully but he is very brave too; he rare-ly attacks a bird smaller than himself and no hawk or eagleis too large for him to drive away. On this account, as wellas for their destruction of insects, they are valuable birds to have about the farm for thev let no bird of prey come iliifrBm, f • inear it thev can prevent it.

><; From now on Uncle George was un-able to give as much of his time toout of door walks with the children.Dick and Dorothy, however, spentnearly all of every morning or after-noon watching their old friends andtrying to find new ones. Every even-ing they told Uncle George about whatthey had seen and listened to his stor-ies about birds he had seen in differentplaces. We found some Blue Jays today,Uncle George/ said Dick. We did not see the nest but saw one of theold jays feed one of the little ones. Then we hunted/ added Dorothy, until we found threeothers. They could fly just a little but we managed tocatch all of them. The jays did not like it a bit when wecaught their children; the)7 scolded and screamed and whis-tled. The little ones were not afraid of us at all. Weplayed with them a few minutes and then put all four in arow on a branch. As soon as we went away a short distance, the motherjay came back and fed them. Blue Jays are beautifulbirds, are they not, Uncle George?
