The hole in which themarrow lies is so big that a fist may be inserted, other-wise the legs bear no proportion to the body, being rathershort. On the reverse of the drawing we read :— This drawing and description is given by BaronKagg, who has just returned from captivity in Russia andSiberia, 1722, in Decembri. Herr Prof. Rudbcck and Dr. Martin maintainedthat it was a sea animal, moreover as Herr Kagg statedthat it was found at the River Obi. To this was addedthat Capt. Lundius had said that its bones were mostlyfound in the earth by the river. With regard to theanimal being drawn with claws. Prof Rudbeck pointedout that as yet no animal cornigenim had been found alsoto be UKguicidattiDi, without being pabnipcs or ha\ingskin between the toes like geese, &c. It was decided towrite to Herr Kagg, requesting some information aboutthe figure, and asking how he had obtained it, so that itmight be ascertained whether it was reliable.
