Description
Deutsch: Naturdenkmal Riesenstein im Heidelberger Stadtwald, am 27.06.1939 verordnet. LUBW Schutzgebietsnummer (SGB-Nr.): 82210001103. Hier: Abgestürzter Felsen (Treppenstein) am Hangfuß des Buntsandsteinbruchs Riesenstein. Ab dem 16. Jh. wurden im Steinbruch solche Werksteine vorgefertigt und anschließend an ihren Bestimmungsort überführt. Die Abbaustätte Riesenstein war ursprünglich im Besitz der kürfürstlichen Hofverwaltung (syn. Hofkammer) bzw. nach deren Ende 1777 im Eigentum der Stadt Heidelberg.
