Summary

[edit]
Description

Charley Harley Waterfowl Production Area (WPA) is located in the Sand Lake Wetland Management District in northern South Dakota. This WPA was prescribed burned in the spring this photo was taken, resulting in a very diverse mix of native grasses, forbs, and sedges. Dozens of native species are in this photo. Native prairie is a complex system and is difficult if not impossible to reconstruct once it is gone.

This part of South Dakota has some of the highest densities of nesting waterfowl along with many other species of grassland and wetland birds. This WPA, along with many more, are managed as part of the Sand Lake Wetland Management District: www.fws.gov/refuge/Sand_Lake_WMD/
