Description |
English: A number of Native American families earned money by selling baskets to Seattle's tourists and residents. In this photo, taken around 1912, two women and a boy sit by their baskets on Second Avenue, outside the Frederick & Nelson department store. This style of twined basket is still made by the Makah people of Neah Bay and the Nootkan people of Vancouver Island.
The exact same three people can be seen on the cover of Picturesque Seattle and Puget Sound (Seattle Chamber of Commerce, c. 1915). Most likely that image is a photo collage incorporating elements of this photo. They also show up in File:Indian sidewalk vendors on Seattle's Second Avenue 1915.jpg, possibly a photo collage. |
