Summary
[edit]DescriptionNational Cycle Network milepost at the March - geograph.org.uk - 1004419.jpg |
English: National Cycle Network milepost at the March In recent years the A74 has been replaced by the M74. The old road, downgraded from dual to single carriageway and renamed the B7076, carries local traffic and serves frontage owners. Cycle lanes have been established on both sides of the road and the whole designated as National Cycle Network http://www.sustrans.org.uk/default.asp?sID=1089735289781 route 74. Although a bit monotonous, this is the one part of the National Cycle Network which provides a continuous length for high-speed cycling from Gretna on the Scottish Border up to north of Abington.
The National Cycle Network is marked at intervals by specially designed mileposts donated to the project by the Royal Bank of Scotland. There are four designs - one each by an Englishman, a Welshman, a Scotsman and an Irishman. This example is an "English" one, entitled "the Fossil Tree" and designed by John Mills. http://www.sustrans.org.uk/default.asp?sID=1132763167625 |
