Представленный портрет – один из наиболее ранних произведений в отечественном искусстве, написанных русскими художниками в европейской манере. Внешний облик героини – фасон платья, парик, манера держаться – говорит о стилистике Нового времени. В то же время в изобразительном языке портрета, созданного И. Н. Никитиным, "персонных дел мастером", любимцем Петра I, еще ощущаются отголоски средневековой живописи: жестко переданы изгибы и складки ткани, присутствует плоскостность в трактовке фигуры, однако лицо героини написано объемно и выразительно. Наличие разновременных черт в живописи, двойственность в художественном решении закономерны на ранней стадии формирования светского искусства. Вероятно И. Н. Никитин (1680-е — не ранее 1742?) выполнил портрет до своего отъезда в Италию, куда он был послан Петром I в качестве пенсионера.
