As regards INDUSTRIALCAPABILITIES, the Northern districtsare pastoral, but owing, unfortunately,to the continued prevalence of tickfever the country has been depletedof the herds of cattle which arereared in this part of Natal. All kinds of South African produce,roots, cereals, fruit, etc., are alsoextensively cultivated, whilst dairy-farming is successfully pursued. Theimmense coal mining operations-with their startling and rapid develop-ment in the latitude north of Lady-smith and particularly in the Dundee,Hatting
