Description
English: Natachaarya shri chatti poornayya pantulu gaaru, a veteran personality who is the municipal chair person to the chicacole (srikakulam) muncipality during 1921 to 1926, later from 1927 to 29.the first municipal chairman to continue to second term,who took birth in 1882.
  • Mahatma Gandhi’s visit to srikakulam in his tenure.

It was during his tenure that Mahatma Gandhi visited srikakulam and he is the person who translated his speech .He is like a dictionary of telugu, kannadam and Sanskrit languages .It was at this time when Gandhiji came he was honoured with a citation on ponduru khadi, which was auctioned for rs.250 and the proceeds donated for the welfare of the harijans..It was then Gandhiji named his daughter as kasturi bai (the name of Gandhiji’s wife).

  • Rejected the title rewarded by the British Gov.t

He is bestowed with the title ”Rao Bahudur” by the British Gov.t which has been rewarded to him for his adorable talent in various fields which he rejected it as a sign of his patriotism.

  • Boycotted Simon Commission as a Municipal chair person..

He is the person who adopted the resolution of boycotting simon commission. the only municipality in India to do that. he is an eminent Lawyer too.

  • A versatile stage Artist.

His veteranity includes his versatility as a stage artist who played a very versatile roles like Othello, Hamlet,King Lear and also heroes from Indian mythology.His portrayal of Shivaji in the play “Roshanara” was legendary.His portrayal ofSshivaji on stage was so admirable that it opened doors to the historic playlets throughout India.He was so realistic on his portrayal as Chatrapathy Shivaji that he rode a real horse on stage while acting the role and used to do his makeovers on his own to the role. the most famous stage artist Shri Sthanam NarasimhaRrao garu used to play the character of “Roshanara” every time he played the role of Shivaji.

  • Adorable service to Andhra Naataka Kalaa Parishad.

He served as the first president to the society of all the stage artists, Andhra Nataka Kalaa Parishad and offered his valuable service to the society to the core which enabled him to be rewarded the title “Natachaarya” by the France Gov.t. He was the one who established this art internationally at the time when even transistor was not being used by the people.

In the memory of Shri poornayya gaaru the cultural association of srikakulam started a society named after him as Shri chatti Poornayya Pantulu gaaru’s Naataka Parishad and conducted Competetions for the stage artists and awarded them in his memory as a sign of saying
