The first village where we halted was Zebdani, Zebdani.a pretty picturesque place. The next day we crossed Anti-Libanus, and descended to Baalbek: the road was moun-tainous and difficult. Towards the close of our ride, weespied some columns and ruined buildings in the valley justbefore us, and others on the top of a hill to our left: theydid not seem extensive, but were plainly ruins of betterbuildings than are now to be seen in the country, and weaccordingly
