Summary
[edit]DescriptionNarmer tablette.jpg |
English: Two fragments of a tablet in ebony, inscribed with the name of Horus Narmer from his tomb in Abydos, Umm el Qaab. Tomb B 18. British Museum
Inside the tomb B 18, pertaining to Horus Narmer, Petrie found only two fragments of this tablet of ebony. The rest seemed to be totally lost. At the time of its discovery, the tablet cover was burned resins covering the name of King Narmer. Only after cleaning could distinguish clearly, the figure of the fish Catfish "nr" and the top of the chisel "mr". Behind the name of the king, is a fortified town surrounded by ramparts. Inside are two signs, which probably give us the name of the town oval. Petrie, translated the first sign as "s", however, the second saw it as a sign new unknown. The small piece of the bottom, shows the image of a stone pot (?) With handles. It is decorated with a wavy line in the middle and Petrie stated that maybe it was a container for water. Finally, Petrie also linked it with another identical container that appears on the tablet pl. XII.4, also discovered in the tomb B 18.
