| Description |
English: Phutthamonthon is located in Phutthamonthon district, Nakhon Pathom covering an area of 2,500 rais. It was initiated by Field Marshal Plaek Phibunsongkhram the then prime minister in 1956, and was completed in 1982 in the tenure of General Prem Tinsulanonda who also created “Phra Sri Sakkaya Thossapollayan Prathan PhutthamonthonSuthas” the bronze-cast principal Buddha statue with remarkably realistic swaying Buddhist robe. The 52 feet tall statue was designed by Silpa Bhirasri, who brought the “Ideal” of Sukhothai art combine with the “Realistic” of Rattanakosin art. Furthermore, there are several permanent structures built afterwards in the area such as the Temple of Marble Pali Canon “Tripitaka” and an auditorium.
Presently, this area is used as a place to conduct major ceremonies on religious days such as Vesakha Day, Magha Puja day, and Asalha Puja Day, and a recreational park. |
