Title
nail cleaner
Description
English: A copper alloy Roman probable nail cleaner. It measures 40.4mm in length, 8.75mm in width at its centre, tapering to a point at one terminal. The object also tapers at the opposite terminal to a flat, rectangular projection incomplete due to old breaks. It is broken off across a perforation, which would have formed a suspension loop for attachment to a ring, most likely along with other toilet implements such as tweezers. A similar item from Colchester is illustrated in Crummy 1983,p.58, no.1874. This type of nail-cleaner is thought to be of first to second century date.
