Title
Nail cleaner
Description
English: A copper alloy nail cleaner dating from the Roman period. It is a flat piece of copper alloy, perhaps made by cutting from sheet, but it is an elaborate shape. Though narrow, it has a decorative panel betweent he shaft and the suspension loop. This is in the form of two lobes separated and flanked by three collars. There is a narrow neck before the loop which is also decoratve, but broken. The shaft has a groove down the centre of the front face and ends in a bifurcated notch. The reverse is flat and plain. The nail cleaner has a smooth and glossy light green patina except in two areas which may indicate where it has been bent at some point. Similar examples are KENT-E128C5, SOM-0AA342 and NLM4410. The whole is flat throughout, and the loop is in the same plane as the shaft.
