Title
Nail cleaner
Description
English: Delicate and carefully cast nail-cleaner of Roman date. The nail-cleaner is of circular cross-section, except for the grooved flattened blade-end. The implement has a circular knop at the apex of the handle. The handle gently tapers, and is divided into two zones by a wide rounded groove at its mid point. The remnants of eroded incised decoration are discernible on both zones, the upper zone caries two rows of chevrons, forming a lozenge design. The lower zone appears to carry a single row of chevrons. A thin rounded groove defines the shoulder and the beginning of the pear-shaped blade. The points of the blade-end are missing, but the blade appears to be diverging outwards at the end. There is no evidence for an attachment loop.
