Description
English: Copper alloy

Nail Cleaner. Cast elongated oval plate with a sharp bifid end with points separated by a narrow gutter on one side. The other end bears a lug on either side; its end is lost. Incised curvilinear decoration at this latter end appears to represent - depending on the angle it is viewed from - a long-tailed bird; or a tree or frond with other motifs including cross-hatch and creatures with prominent eyes, perhaps fishes.

Suggested date: Roman, 40-400.

Length: 44.8mm, Width: 12.4mm, Thickness: 1.9mm, Weight: 5.20gms.
