Title
Nail Cleaner
Description
English: A copper alloy nail cleaner toilet article dating from the Roman period. This example is unusual in having no suspension loop, nor showing any evidence that there ever was one. The shaft is straight sided and rectangular in section. The end is notched and a groove runs up the centre of one face of the shaft. The upper end of the shaft is thicker (and more rounded (almost circular in section) and it flattens out towards the lower end. The terminal is elegantly moulded with a sphere flanked by a reel above and below. At the very end is a spherical terminal decorated with radial grooves. The nail cleaner has a smooth olive green patina with some pitting.
