English: Nagoya Castle, built by Ieyasu Tokugawa in 1609, is one of the most wonderful castles in Japan (on par with Osaka Castle and Kumamoto Castle). It was burned down in a carpet bombing by the U.S.Army in 1945, and rebuilt imitation towers by the city of Nagoya in 1959. The castle's tower is decorated with famous golden Shachihoko Castle Golden Shachi-Hoko Statue01.jpg, a mythic creature with the head of a tiger and the body of a fish.
