Im frühen 17. Jahrhundert entstand besonders in Oberösterreich, im Enns- und im Steyertal, entlang der Eisenhütten und Schmiedewerkstätten diese Art der reizenden Krippen. Durch die wirtschaftliche Not der damaligen Zeit hatten findige Krippeler die Idee, reliefartige Kleinfiguren aus Lehm herzustellen. Mit Modeln und Abdrücken wurden Hunderte gleiche Figürchen in Heimarbeit geformt und in den Öfen und Essen der Schmiedewerkstätten gebrannt. So bekamen viele arme Eisenarbeiter, Nagelschmiede entlang der Enns die Möglichkeit, sich um wenig Geld eine Hauskrippe zu bauen. Schaut man in eine solche Kastenkrippe, die meist durch einen Rahmen mit Glas abgeschlossen ist, und bekommt diese Fülle von bunten Figuren vor Augen, bleibt oft der erste Gedanke: „Ein Kitschkastel - vielleicht ein „Edelkitschkastel“… Macht man sich die Mühe genauer hinzuschauen, wird man bald von der Symbol- und Aussagekraft dieses kleinen Weihnachtsgeschehens begeistert sein. |
