Naga Buddha, Burma Collection at Albert Hall Museum Jaipur

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Naga Buddha, Sri Lanka Collection at Albert Hall Museum Jaipur. Naga Buddha statues are seen with the Naga's body coiled up to serve as a cushion for the Buddha with 7 pronged head over Buddha's head as a cover. The depiction originates from the mythical story in which a mythical snake, Mucilanda, protected the meditating Buddha. The Naga Buddha statues are very popular in Southeast Asian nations, specifically Burma, where the Buddhist arts flourished under the patronage of many Burmese kings.
