Русский: Это картина немецкого художника Якоба Филиппа Гаккерта «Начало боя в Хиосском проливе 24 июня 1770 года». Картина написана специально для Чесменского зала Большого Петергофского дворца в 1772 году. На картине описаны события Первой Архипелагской экспедиции русского флота — начало Хиосского сражения. Описание картины из автобиографических записок самого художника, обработаных Гете: Турецкий флот был построен у правого материкового берега вблизи Чесмы полукругом. Турецким кораблям с большим красно-зеленым флагом и красным вымпелом командовал капитан Баша. корабль с большим желто-красным флагом на высокой мачте был контр-адмиральским. кораблем с большим красным флагом на фок-мачте командовал второй контр-адмирал. На всех остальных турецких кораблях видны были красные флаги и вымпелы. На материке за флотом располагались сухопутныевойска, 30000 человек, чтобы воспрепятствовать высадке русских и при необходимости заменить экипажи кораблей. На картине видны только часть их, лагерь же и палатки закрыты кораблями и дымом. точно также из многочисленных галер, малых кораблей и шлюпок для транспортировки матросов видны только несколько.
