Description

Climax Mine, in Area 15 of the Nevada Test Site.

The rail-mounted transfer cask vehicle at the bottom of the access hole receives the fuel canister, move it laterally in the drift, and emplaces it in the storage hole. The vehicle also emplaces a thick concrete plug over each storage hole which, in combination with the thick steel plug on the canister top, will virtually eliminate radiation in the storage drift.
