Summary
[edit]DescriptionNTS - EMAD Facility 001.jpg |
English: The Engine Maintenance Assembly and Disassembly (E-MAD) Building was built to assemble and disassemble experimental nuclear powered rocket engines. The engines were tested in southwest-corner of the Nevada Test Site. That program ended in 1973. Radioactive waste storage investigations also have been conducted at E-MAD, including the “canning” of spent nuclear fuel elements. The E-MAD building is 80 feet high and has 100,000 square feet of floor space. Hot bay access by railcar or truck is through a 22-foot-wide, 37-foot-high doorway. The shielded door is made of concrete five feet thick. |
