Summary
[edit]DescriptionNSG Schlichemtal Maeanderdurchbruch Butschhof.jpg |
English: Schlichem. When entering the resistant Muschelkalk, 8,8km before flowing into river Neckar, the Schlichem begins to meander heavely. One big loop (3,5km before entering the Neckar) was completed in Quaternary by a breakthrough of the two closest parts of the bend, producing a steep drop of 10m, while the loop fell dry. Erosion in the resistant beds of Muschekalk formed 4 steps. The last 6,7km to the river’s mouth are the Naturschutzgebiet “Schlichemtal”. The protected area is considered an extraordinary example of landscape and geology. There are impressive rockwalls, calcareous grassland, wet meadows, varying forests and habitats for endangered species of flora and fauna. |
