Summary
[edit]DescriptionNSG-Galgenwiesen Baeratal Grosser-Heuberg Schwaebische Alb.jpg |
(vgl. Europäische Hauptwasserscheide). English: River Bära 692m, at the fork of Untere Bära and Obere Bära, western Swabian Alb. The fork and its wetland is the Naturschutzgebiet “Galgenwiesen”. In pleistocene the Bära, before and after the fork was a huge river. However, in Holocene it shrunk to a small river, almost a rivulet, as the terrain became more and more karstic. Geological research found traces of a very huge drainage system of Pliocene time, which drained even part of the Black Forest. This water system used both, the valleys of the Ur-Schlichem and the Ur-Bära. After the Alb plateau was tectonically lifted, ever since then, the Alb village Tieringen became the new highest location, where the rivers start: The Schlichem now starts its way towards the Neckar and the Bära towards the Danube. |
