Description
Deutsch: Naturschutzgebiet (NSG) „Digelfeld“ bei Hayingen. Zu sehen ist die Naturschutzfläche, bei der durch ausreichende Wanderschafbeweidung das Gras und alle Triebe kurz gehalten werden, wie es der klassisch-typischen Kulturlandschaft Wacholderheide der Schwäbischen Alb entspricht.
Das schon 1991 unter Schutz gestellte artenreiche Naturschutzgebiet ist eine vielgestaltige, kleinstrukturierte Landschaft, die auch Kiefernwäldchen, Heckengruppen, Wiesen und eingestreute Felder umfasst. Das hier sichtbare auf magerem Boden liegende Gewann Digelfeld, Teil des NSG Digelfeld, konnte sich nur wegen seiner sonnenexponierten Hanglage als Schafweide halten, denn die Humusschicht ist sehr dünn. Lediglich in den bewirtschafteten Tallagen befinden sich tiefgründige Lehmablagerungen. In den vergangenen Jahren wurden verbuschte Teile bereinigt und hochgewachsene Bäume entfernt.

English: Naturschutzgebiet „Digelfeld“ near Hayingen (Landkreis Reutlingen). The image shows the part, where nomadic pastoralism kept all young shoots from growing (except junipers), thus preserving the classical landscape of “juniper heaths” of the Swabian Alb.
The slope’s humus layer is very thin. The mix with humus rich fields in the valley like terrain definitely contributed to maintaining an overall species richness of the Naturschutzgebiet.
