Description

With NSF support, the National Center for Atmospheric Research’s (NCAR) Colorado facility is home to HIAPER, one of the worlds’ most advanced research aircraft. The High-performance Instrumented Airborne Platform for Environmental Research is a modified Gulfstream V airplane that can carry 5,600 pounds of sensing equipment and fly at an altitude of 51,000 feet. The plane has a range of 7,000 miles. Since its debut in 2005, HIAPER has been at the forefront of environmental research.
