DescriptionNLS Haig - Horses of patrols tethered behind dug-outs in a dip.jpg |
English: Row of horses tied up, Belgium. This image shows a line of horses tethered to some bushes. They are all wearing saddles and harnesses, and are laden with weapons and equipment. The ground they are standing on is rough and uneven. In front of the horses there is a bank of earth, above which the ground levels out. At this higher level there are dugouts constructed out of sandbags and timber. A few soldiers are standing outside the dugouts. They have noticed the photographer and are looking toward the camera and smiling. [Original reads: 'OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN ON THE BRITISH WESTERN FRONT. BATTLE OF MENIN ROAD. The horses of patrols tethered behind dug-outs in a dip. Our advance has rendered this ground possible for use such as depicted here. This ground is, however, by no means safe yet.'] |
