Summary
[edit]DescriptionNIEPPE (France) —Members of the 3rd Australian Tunnelling Company in action at the Pont de Nieppe.jpg |
English: "Members of the 3rd Australian Tunnelling Company preparing a machine gun emplacement at the Nieppe Bridge* in a district of the City of Nieppe called "Pont de Nieppe", near Armentieres. The bridge was also mined for blowing up in case of necessity. This work was a portion of the defensive preparations of the winter months, which proved of such value in retarding the German advance in Flanders in April**. Identified, left to right: Sapper (Spr) W. Williams ; Lieutenant Neil Campbell (later killed near this bridge on 10 April 1918 ; Spr R. E. Willoughby. "
The resumption of this photo from the site on Commons Wikimedia*** will allow a different approach of the event evoked by this photo by specifying the place of the action. *The bridge goes over la Lys (the Lily). **1918 logically ?
