For his spirited battle against John Paul Jones, Pearson was considered a hero. He was knighted, received presents from the merchants and the freedoms of several towns. Under his leadership, the battle between Bonhomme Richard and Serapis lasted for close to four grueling hours. Captain Richard Pearson, Royal Navy.
