Description
English: False color image of the planetary nebula NGC 6781 taken at the VATT Telescope using UBVR filters. The bright star at the center is the source of the gas and dust that make up the planetary nebula. Ultraviolet light from the central star ionizes the gasses, which eventually give off the light seen by the telescope. The reds and purples are ionized hydrogen (Balmer lines); the blues and greens are primarily ionized oxygen and sulfur.
