There's more going on in this galaxy than is apparent from this image. Blue sections of young stars and red bubbles of H-alpha would be visible with a different set of filters. However, this is only near infrared and red light, so none of those details are apparent. In fact, the H-alpha regions appear very slightly blue in this processing. They don't show up very well in the wideband filter but they are just barely there. Kudos to NomolosX for pointing this data out to me and suggesting I process it. Red: ACS/WFC F814W Green: Pseudo Blue: ACS/WFC F606W North is NOT up. It is 29.2° counter-clockwise from up. |
