画題：東海道五拾三次之内　平塚　縄手道画工名：歌川広重落款：廣重画改印：「極」判・種類：大判、錦絵、横一枚種類 : 名所絵、風俗画版元：「保永堂・僊靏堂」（竹内孫八・鶴屋喜右衛門）解説：「縄手道」は長い田圃道。低く取った地平線から突然迫り出している丸い山塊は高麗山であろう。その裾の辺りを屈折しながら縄手道が大磯方向へと続く。右手前には平塚宿の宿境を示す榜示杭(ぼうじぐい)があり、「高麗寺領」とあるらしい石の道標の前を、空の雲駕籠と二人の笠を吊した舁き棒を担いで一対の雲助がぴったり並んで歩む。大磯方向から走ってすれ違うのは宿継(しゅくつぎ)飛脚。この飛脚も十返舎一九著『続膝栗毛』４編口絵「道中ゆきかいふり」に描かれる「宿継」をもう少し走らせた姿と思われる。遠景には小さく橋を渡ろうとする武士、向こうからは桐油合羽をまとった人物か。彼らもまた道中を行き交う旅人である。もう一度背景に眼を転ずれば、右手には御鷹野御殿跡地の御林と推定される一かたまりの林があり、その向こうの角張った山は大山参りで親しまれた大山であろう。稜線の重なる奥に真白な富士の姿を据え、黒い山肌で切り取ったのが印象的である。（木村八重子）参考資料：『保永堂版　広重　東海道五拾三次』（鈴木重三等著、岩波書店、2004刊）所収資料名 : 『東海道五拾三次』(請求記号：寄別 2-2-1-6)
