Title
NCL-032386: Roman finger ring
Description
English: A cast copper-alloy finger ring, Guiraud type 1, dating to the Roman period, c. AD 43-200.

The finger ring is mostly complete, consisting of a round hoop with a solid, flattened bezel that is distinctively thicher than the hoop. The bezel is ovoid in planview and has been set with a largely damaged blue-glass inset. The glass appears to have shattered and has a very uneven, fractured surface within the setting, but which originally protruded from the setting, either in a convex dome shape or as a raised platform. The hoop has been damaged at its base, such that the hoop is now penannular. The ends of the damaged hoop are very abraded, possibly filed down, suggesting a possible crude 're-sizing' of the ring.
