Summary

[edit]
Description

Named 'Fragile but Agile'. Was originally believed to be 44-63864, a genuine 78FG aircraft. After 8thAF service, '864' then passed to the Swedish AF as Fv26158, and then finally moved to the Israeli AF where it eventually became derelict. Initially restored to airworthy condition in Israel as 4X-AIM, it then moved to Sweden as SE-BKG and was painted in full Swedish AF markings. With its 78FG history, it wasn't long before it was bought by TFC at Duxford. After further restoration it then flew with TFC as 'Twilight Tear' in full 78FG markings. It went to the USA to appear in an anniversary airshow and then went to Chino for further rebuild work. At this time, what is now believed to be the REAL 44-63864 turned up! The FAA were convinced of this new aircraft's pedigree and granted it custody of the genuine ID. That left the Mustang painted as 'Twilight Tear' with a serious identity crisis. After rebuild was completed, it took on the colours of 44-12016 'Fragile But Agile', although just to add further confusion it is marked as 412018 on the port side as original photos are unclear as to the original serial. It is now operated by Commanche Fighters in the USA and together with N351MX was imported just for the Legends weekend to fly as 'The Horsemen', therefore returning to its previous base, although few would recognise it. I believe the above to be an accurate outline of the situation with regards this airframe, however I may have lost the plot somewhere............. Parked on the grass flightline.
