Description
English: NAVFAC Pacific Commander Rear Adm. Bret Muilenburg presents Irene Shimaoka a Meritorious Civilian Service Award July 9 for exceptional meritorious civilian service as the Accounting Officer and as the Acting Comptroller for the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Pacific from September 2013 to May 2014.

The award reads, "from September 2013 to January 2014, Ms. Shimaoka led the implementation of the Commander’s Checklist, a Department of Defense mandate to test and strengthen internal financial and management controls within all Department of Defense organizations.

As Acting Comptroller from February 2014 to May 2014, Ms. Shimaoka assumed the responsibilities of fiduciary authority for the Commander and expertly led financial management operations for the NAVFAC Pacific area of responsibility, supervising daily financial management operations of budget and accounting functions of general funds and Navy Working Capital Funds totaling approximately 2.6 billion dollars annually with a geographic span of control from Hawaii to Guam, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, and Diego Garcia."
