Title |
NARC-0FC014 sword hanger |
||
Description |
English: A corroded and bent Post Medieval (c.1550-1650) copper-alloy hooked mount.
The mount is sub-trapezoidal in shape with an incurved upper edge. It tapers towards the inward-turning hook. A broadly oval loop is retained by the hook measuring 8mm in diameter. The mount is shallowly convex. It features two rivet holes, one towards the upper edge, the other just below the centre of the plate, both off centre. The upper hole contains the corroded remains of an iron rivet. A similar hooked mount can be found on the date base; HAMP-9E2AC5. Similar plain hooked mounts can be found illustrated in Margeson (1993, 39; refs: 257, 258) where they are dated to the period either side of 1600 AD. Such mounts were probably associated with sword belts. |
