Title
NAIL CLEANER
Description
English:

An incomplete copper alloy Roman nail cleaner of Crummy 1983, Type 2a (AD 43-200). The remaining section of the nail cleaner is leaf shape, and flat. At the top of the nail cleaner there is an incomplete circular attachment loop. The loop is attached to a rectangular neck which possibly has three diagonal incised lines on rear.. The neck then tapers outwards to form a leaf-shaped plate. The plate is decorated with three ring and dot motifs under the neck. the surface of the bottom half of the plate is damaged therefore it is unknown if this was decorated. The leaf plate narrows to form the prongs which is decorated with incised vertical line. The reverse is undecorated. The terminal end of the prong is damaged... The nail cleaner has a dark green patina.

The nail cleaner is 33.3mm long, 9.2mm wide, 2.5mm thick and weighs 1.18 grams.

Similar type nail cleaners can be seen in Crummy 1983 page 58, figure 62, numbers 1872, 1874. These are dated from 1st to 2nd century AD.
